Donald Trump's Joe Rogan interview: How to watch and listen (2024)

Former President Donald Trump is set to appear on one of the biggest national podcasts today: The Joe Rogan Experience.

The podcast interview will be taped on Friday in Rogan's studio in Austin, Texas, according to multiple media reports. Politico was first to report the news on Tuesday afternoon.

'The Joe Rogan Experience' Audience: What to Know

The Joe Rogan Experience is available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Rogan has one of the world's most-listened to podcasts, with over 14 million followers on Spotify.

The average length of a Joe Rogan podcast episode is typically around three hours. However, the duration can vary, with some episodes being as short as two hours and others extending to four hours or more.

It is unclear when Trump's podcast episode will go live. However, Rogan's team reportedly does minimal editing and publishes podcast episodes quickly, sometimes even the same day after recording, according to Lulu Cheng Meservey, Vice President of Communications at Substack, who documented her subscribers through a day with Rogan in 2022.

The Republican presidential nominee earlier this month appeared on the Nelk Boys YouTube channel and when asked by one of the hosts if he would go on Rogan's show, Trump responded, "Oh, sure I would" before adding: "I mean, I think I'm doing it actually."

Host Kyle Forgeard then asked him: "So you are going to do Joe Rogan?" and Trump responded: "Yeah I am."

Where can I watch Joe Rogan's podcast?

Joe Rogan's podcast is available on most podcast services. Some of his recent guests have included musicians Luke Bryan and Jelly Roll.

Will Kamala Harris appear on Joe Rogan's podcast?

Reports circulated in recent weeks that both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris would be appearing with Rogan.

According to Reuters, Harris campaign officials met with Rogan's team, but an appearance by the Democratic presidential nominee on The Joe Rogan Experience will not happen due to scheduling issues.

Donald Trump and Joe Rogan's Relationship

Rogan's show leans more to the right and attracts a young, male audience, with the host often sharing similar views to Trump, such as skepticism over COVID-19 measures, prompting calls during the pandemic for Spotify to cut ties with Rogan.

The host has chosen not to have Trump on his show, however, saying in July 2022 that he didn't want to help the former president, going as far as to say he was "an existential threat to democracy."

He has generally avoided showing support for either Democrats or Republicans, and his seemingly supportive comments have been more about expressing frustration at the political establishment.

How have podcasts impacted the election cycle?

The 2024 election has seen both Trump and Harris embrace non-traditional means of reaching new audiences, with podcasts emerging as one of the top formats.

The U.S. podcast audience is larger than ever before. Around 135 million Americans listen to podcasts at least once a month, with 15 million new listeners starting in the last year alone. The long form format gives politicians the chance to speak about their platform without interruption, and critically, it helps them connect with audiences that are otherwise disengaged from politics.

Andrew Chadwick, professor of political communication at the University of Loughborough and director of the Online Civic Culture Centre, told Newsweek last week that it was this connection that makes podcasts so appealing for the presidential candidates.

"I think the main driver of the shift is old-school voter targeting updated for today, where every little helps in a fragmented media environment during the closing stages of the race," Chadwick said.

"Rogan's podcast audiences skew young and male. Both campaigns will struggle with turnout when it comes to younger demographics, though arguably Harris' campaign has more to gain here and is keen to mobilize more men in particular to vote Democrat on Election Day."

Trump appears to have been leaning hard into this demographic, with appearances on Lex Freidman's podcast, as well as the Shawn Ryan Show. Combined, these appearances received more than 8 million views on YouTube, where the podcast is broadcast.

According to audience tracking site SimilarWeb, Friedman's audience is 80 percent male, with the majority of his audience being aged 25-34.

Harris has also used appearances on podcasts such as Call Her Daddy to focus on her voter base; Call Her Daddy is the most popular podcast on Spotify for women. However, this interview has only received half a million views on YouTube.

Rogan is also a stand-up comedian and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announcer.

Trump and Dana White, the president of the UFC, have maintained a strong and friendly relationship over the years. The former president has attended numerous UFC fights, often appearing as a guest of White.
