Introduction

My kids love this-in fact, my daughter requested it for her 13th birthday instead of a traditional cake and, after the party, three mums phoned up for the recipe because their kids had raved about it. It's very easy to make and gives you masses of brownie points with your family!

    • Are the maltesers to be cut up into pieces?

    • I've been making this for 2/3 years now and it's amazing. They're always a big hit at bake sales, I generally have all the ingredients already so it's super easy! If you don't have malteasers, it's very easy to substitute with other biscuits, chocolate bars, marshmallows, (even cornflakes once)!

    • If you use rich tea biscuits instead of digestives, it makes for a crunchier traybake, not better just different!

    • This is literally the easiest and most incredible 'cake' you can make. I make it all the time and have literally had proposals of marriage. Some amazing variations on Malteser: Crunchie bars (5 in place of the maltesers) Slices of Topic bars (5 again) The ultimate: Kinder Bueno chunks: White version is better - 6 bars broken up woth some lining the bottom, some stirred gently into the mix and some pressed into the topic Also - other handy hints... 1) when you blitz the digestives, it needs to be the consistency of powder, not crumbs. It needs to be like the very slightly damp sand of the Caribbean island of your dreams 2) A layer of white chocolate (100-150g) on top really takes this tongue next level, and by next level I mean diabetes 3) Pass on these golden rules

    • These are amazing - they are my go to recipe whenever I need to make something sweet for parties and celebrations. I don't use as many maltesers as the recipe and they are still very yummy. Can't believe how easy they are to make!

    • I have found you need nowhere near as much Maltesers - if you buy a big packet and use about 1/2 of it you will be fine. Love the recipe and have even pulled off a variation with white chocolate for the kids!
