thili saaru recipe | karnataka style instant tomato rasam | dal rasam with step by step photo and video recipe. lentil is used for many south indian dishes like sambar and rasam recipes. the most common recipes are sambar which is mainly made with a choice of vegetables, lentil and specifically blended spice powder. yet there are lentil-based rasam recipes and thili saaru recipe is one such simple and instant rasam recipes.
i have posted quite a few rasam recipes which are generally a combination of spices and lentil and has its own taste and fan following. yet this recipe post of thili saaru has its uniqueness and taste without any spices added to it. the watery consistent of lentil extract is spiced with herbs like ginger, cumin and coriander leaves which gives the necessary flavour and taste to it. basically the rasam is made if something light is required or to cure if have digestion problems. i personally make it when i run out of options and i feel lazy to make something fancy. also compared to other dal recipes, the consistency is very thin and hence it has to be sharp with its taste and hence add a generous amount of ginger and green chillies.
anyway, before wrapping up the recipe post of thili saaru recipe, some tips, suggestions and variations. firstly, as i mentioned earlier the consistency is key to this recipe and has to be watery. do not even try to match the consistency of traditional dal recipes which is thick in nature. secondly, the recipe is not just limited as a side dish to steamed rice and can also be served as soup as an appetiser. particularly if you have indigestion or stomach related problems, you can serve it as soup to recover. lastly, do not add the lemon juice when the rasam is on stove and boiling. add it only when you have turned off the heat and also about to come to boiling temperature.
finally, i request you to check my other detailed rasam recipes collection with this post of thili saaru recipe. it mainly includes recipes collection like majjiga pulusu, pachi pulusu, kalyana rasam, pesara pappu charu, paruppu rasam, lemon rasam, punarpuli saaru, soppu saaru, rasam, kollu rasam. further, to these, i would also like to highlight my other recipes like,
